Makayla Veneziale picked up her 11th win of the season, striking out 14 to keep St. Joseph undefeated with a 8-2 softball win over Absegami on Monday. Veneziale was 2-for-5 at the plate, while Carli Melchiorre had three hits including a double and two RBIs for the Wildcats who improve to 18-0. Emily Martin had a two-run home run to put Absegami on the board in the first inning.

Cherokee beat Camden Catholic, 5-4, despite a late-game surge from the Irish. The Chiefs led 4-1 before Camden Catholic scored three runs throughout the sixth and seventh innings. Karly Messina pitched a complete game for the Chiefs, striking out seven while going 3-for-3 at the plate with an RBI.

Brooke Clark went 3-for-4 with a home run, two triples and five RBIs, leading Delsea to a 10-3 win over Cumberland. Alexis Harkins had a home run for the Crusaders, while Diana Parker picked up the win and had a double.

Sterling put up seven runs in the fifth inning to come out with a 10-9 win over Woodbury. The Thundering Herd responded with five runs in the sixth inning, but were cut short. Mallory Skelly pitched a complete game for Sterling and went 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Hannah McLoughlin and Megan Barbara had two hits apiece for the Silver Knights. Nora Campo had two hits and four RBIs for Woodbury including a home run.

Hailey Neville pitched a complete game, striking out three and going 2-for-4 with a double in Ocean City’s 5-0 win over Highland. Jackie Nesi was 2-for-3 with a home run and a pair of RBIs for the Red Raiders.

Baseball
Ben Maiers went 2-for-3 and had the go-ahead RBI single in the top of the eighth for Kingsway to beat Clearview, 2-1. Matt Lipka pitched seven innings for the Dragons including being the scoring run on Maiers’ single.

Dylan Heine struck out seven including three in the seventh to close out a 2-0 Haddonfield win over Audubon. The victory served as a bounce-back from Saturday’s loss to Triton for No. 9 Haddonfield (9-1), which has locked up an automatic berth to the Joe Hartmann Diamond Classic and tightened its grip on first place in the Colonial Liberty. Heine also contributed at the plate as his hard-hit grounder in the top of the fourth chased home both runs on an infield error. Chris Brown and Alex Kadar, both of whom singled to start the Bulldogs’ only serious rally of the game, raced home on the play.
