Friday’s Southeastern Pa. roundup: Northeast’s David Mamalat and Masterman’s Jonathan Nottingham each win District 12 tennis titles

Northeast’s David Mamalat defeated La Salle’s Matt Catanzariti in straight sets Friday, 6-0, 6-0, to win the District 12 Class 3A singles tennis title. Mamalat became the first player from Northeast to win a District 12 singles tournament since 2009. Mamalat will compete in the PIAA state playoffs in Hershey, which begins May 24.

Masterman’s Jonathan Nottingham defeated Devon Prep’s Mitchell Bramlage, 6-2, to capture the District 12 Class 2A singles title. With the win, Nottingham has qualified for the state playoffs. The senior will look to follow up on his state title from last year.

Softball

Alex DiCampello smacked two doubles, two triples, and knocked in eight runs as Pope John Paul II rolled past Norristown, 15-3. Madison Dunn helped herself to a double and two RBIs for the Golden Panthers.

Anastasia Lewis allowed four hits and struck out nine as Penn Charter edged Notre Dame, 4-3. The Quakers walked-off on a wild pitch in the home seventh inning. Lucianna Regalbuto led the Quakers’ offense with a double and two RBIs.

Natalie Beebe tossed a one-hitter with 10 strikeouts in Downingtown West’s 11-0 victory over Daniel Boone. Cait Coker, who doubled, and Taylor Posner, who tripled, had three RBIs apiece for the Whippets.

Sam Emerson went 4-for-4 with three RBIs as Coatesville knocked off Oxford, 14-4. Peyton Landis had three RBIs for the Red Raiders.

Daylin Boehmer went 6-for-6 with a double as Franklin Towne Charter defeated Kensington, 15-5. Julia Carter added a double, and was aided on the mound by two seven-run innings from the Coyotes.

Gina Olivieri homered and pitched a four-inning no-hitter in Phila. Academy Charter’s 18-0 win over Girls High. Cameryn Yaletsko, Kayla Rockey, and Tristan Zink each hit a double for the victors.

Ellie Benedict delivered a three-inning perfect game and homered twice as Constitution cruised past Mariana Bracetti, 17-0.

Baseball

Greg Sylvester’s two-run home run was the difference in Holy Ghost Prep’s 2-1 vicotry over Neumann-Goretti.

Nick Bitsko went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored as Central Bucks East blanked Wissahickon, 6-0. Andrew Whinney added two hits and an RBI for the Patriots.

Austin Jones doubled and had two RBIs as Souderton took down Upper Dublin, 16-1. Dean Shaw laced a pair of doubles for the Indians.

Ryan Weaver went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs to lead Coatesville over Oxford, 7-1. Brendan Reilly went 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs to support Derek Seagraves, who struck out nine over six innings for the Red Raiders.

Kenneth Rodriguez pitched a five-inning shutout with eight strikeouts as George School beat Friends Select, 15-0. Bennett Lichstein went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs while Joe Kumar tripled and had two RBIs for the Cougars.

Tyson Maddox pitched three shutout innings in relief to earn the win as Germantown Friends topped Shipley, 5-2. Justin Needles drove in a pair of runs for the Bears, who scored three runs in the home sixth to break a 2-2 tie.

Leon McKnight struck out 11 and belted a home run as Sankofa Freedom downed Dobbins, 13-3. Jameer Johnson and Jordan Price also homered for the Warriors.

Boys’ Basketball

Matt Dolan has been hired as the new coach for Germantown Academy Academy, the school announced this week. Dolan, who is replacing long-time coach Jim Fenerty, served as the the Patriots’ freshman coach and assisted the varsity team in 2011-12. Dolan then went on to coach Christopher Dock the following two seasons, where he took the Pioneers to the district playoffs in both years.

Girls’ Lacrosse

Jane MacRae and Lily Seldin each scored four goals in Germantown Friends’ 20-8 triumph over George School. Alexa Hanson added three goals for the Tigers.

Mikayla Dever and Georgie Gorelick recorded four goals apiece to lift Notre Dame over Penn Charter, 13-8. Claire Gola and Maggie O’Brien contributed two and three goals, respectively, for the Irish.
