Joe Jaconski was contemplating buying dinner for his little brother, Jesse, after the Plymouth Whitemarsh baseball team defeated Upper Dublin 10-0, in five innings on Thursday.

Joe has committed to North Carolina. The sophomore shortstop finished the game 2-for-3 with an RBI triple in the third inning.

However, Jesse one-upped his big brother by blasting a pinch-hit home run in the fifth to give the Colonials (5-3) a 9-0 lead.

“I was proud of him,” Joe Jaconski said of his brother, who is a freshman infielder. “It was his first varsity hit. He got in a couple games, but he struck out twice. I think it’ll boost his confidence.”

Plymouth Whitemarsh got big contributions from the bottom of its lineup. Junior center fielder Zach Redican, who was making his first start of the season, singled and had two RBIs out of the No. 9 spot. Junior first baseman Daulton Carlisle went 2-for-2 with an RBI as the eighth hitter and senior second baseman Jacob Nunez stroked a double down the right-field line in the second inning.

“Offensively, we’ve sort of been a little bit top-heavy,” Plymouth Whitemarsh coach Chris Manero said. “I think today was a good indicator that we’re improving offensively. We hit all throughout the order, and that’s something we haven’t being doing recently.”

Senior lefthander Brett Bottinger pitched a five-inning shutout, scattering three hits and striking out five. Bottinger was efficient, throwing 51 of his 66 pitches for strikes.

“He hasn’t pitched in 13 days,” Manero said. “For him to come out off that much rest and be as sharp as he was, that was impressive. He’s a senior, he’s been through this before, so I think that’s what he expects of himself.”

Upper Dublin fell to 5-3.
