Wednesday’s Southeastern Pa. roundup: Unionville tennis defeats Great Valley to win District 1 Class 3A title

Unionville’s second singles player Ethan Bradley defeated Great Valley’s Ryan Hamel, 6-4, 6-4, to help the Indians beat the Patriots overall, 3-1, to win the District 1 Class 3A title on Wednesday. Victor Li knocked off Amish Saini, 7-6 (7-5), as the third singles winner from Unionville. Indians’ Clay Horowitz and Andrew Poprik and Kevin Laio and Parik Radhakrishnan each won their matches on the doubles side.

Softball

Kellee Blockus pitched a four-inning no-hitter as Saul cruised past Simon Gratz, 15-0, in the Public League first round. Michaela Olszewski went 3-for-3 for the Razorbacks, who will play Northeast on Friday.

In other first round action, Avery Lippi doubled and drove in five runs in Constitution’s 15-0 win over Swenson. Laila Asid doubled twice, and Dreyanna Ros also doubled and had four RBIs. The Generals will travel to Franklin Towne Charter on Friday.

Emily Bassick hit for the cycle and knocked in three runs to lead West Chester Rustin over Sun Valley, 15-4. Hope Geissler went 3-for-4 with two doubles and six RBIs and Madison Fife homered for the Golden Knights.

Paige Deal tossed a five-inning shut out and belted a grand slam as Methacton took down Owen J. Roberts, 11-0. Kathryn Hamilton added a double and two RBIs for the Warriors.

Caitlin Chambers had two RBIs and Jordan Galloway reached base four times with a single and three walks as Springfield Delco topped Marple Newtown, 5-2.

Natalie Beebe tossed a one-hitter and had doubled and had RBIs as Downingtown West blanked Downingtown East, 5-0.

Baseball

Gavin Moretski pitched a one-hitter without allowing an earned run in La Salle’s 3-1 triumph over Archbishop Wood. Moretski helped himself with an RBI and Daniel Choate lashed an RBI double for the Explorers.

Kenneth Rodriguez spun a four-hitter with 14 strikeouts to carry George School over Friends Select, 2-0. Grant Kind went 2-for-3 and Justice Agosto had an RBI for the Cougars.

Matt Cohen allowed two hits and one earned run as Radnor topped Strath Haven, 6-1. George Hoysgaard went 2-for-3 with a bases-clearing double while Seamus Kennedy went 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

Alex Pelegrin hit the game-winning sacrifice to score Henry Goodier, who led off the inning with a single, as Unionville got past Great Valley, 2-1, in eight innings.

David Smith blasted a home run in support of Manny Ariza as Perkiomen School downed Collegium Charter, 11-0, to win the Tri-County League title. Jose Aviles added a double and two RBIs for the victors.

Girls’ Lacrosse

Sarah Hartigan led all scorers with five goals as St. Hubert edged St. Basil, 14-12. Tori Wolstenholme chipped in three goals for the Bambies.

Becky Browndorf, Jenn McCarry, and Julia Reardon each recorded three goals as Upper Dublin beat Quakertown, 16-4. Allie Rock and Michelle Wright added two goals apiece for the Cardinals.

Riley O’Malley tallied five goals in Upper Merion’s 19-8 victory over Jenkintown. Catherine Merritt contributed three goals, including the 100th of her career for the Vikings.

Lizzie Paterno delivered with five goals to lead Academy of New Church over New Foundations, 18-2.

Boys’ Lacrosse

Matt Brock, Connor Roop, and Jack Scaliti each scored two goals as Perkiomen Valley upended Boyertown, 8-6. Robert Wood made five saves for the Vikings.
