Pothole problems persist on I-95

PHILADELPHIA Highway repair crews tackled an I-95 crater - twice - on Saturday after tires were damaged on several vehicles that struck the hole.

Crews were on the scene by 12:30 a.m., a PennDot spokesman said. But the hole, on a bridge deck, was so deep that the patch did not hold. The section of I-95, north of the Girard Avenue exit, is under construction, so by morning the contractor was on the site assessing the road and doing a permanent repair.

During the work, the right travel lane of the southbound road section and the deceleration lane for the exit were closed. The exit itself remained open.

The work was finished and the lanes reopened by 3 p.m. - Sandy Bauers
