Singleton seeks committee ideas

Assemblyman Troy Singleton (D., Burlington) is turning to his district to pick which committees he would like to serve on when the new legislative session begins in January.

Assemblyman Troy Singleton (D., Burlington) is turning to his district to pick which committees he would like to serve on when the new legislative session begins in January.

Singleton, who can request five committees, is polling constituents - his "bosses," he says - via social media and his website, assemblyman singleton.com, to pick three of the requests.

The goal is to gather input from constituents in the political process, said Singleton, who began serving in the Assembly in 2011. He said he had also created citizen advisory panels and asked constituents to suggest laws through his website.

The assemblyman, who currently serves on the Budget, Education, and Commerce and Economic Development Committees, plans to ask to remain on the Budget and Education panels, in addition to the three constituent picks. Leaders in the Assembly have authority over committee assignments. He must submit his requests by the end of the week. - Maddie Hanna
