CAMDEN Two suspects have been arrested in a double homicide in the city last year, Camden County Prosecutor Warren W. Faulk and Camden County Police Chief Scott Thomson announced Monday.
Jorge Lopez, 35, of Gloucester City, and Jose Cortes, 38, of Riverton, are each charged with two counts of murder in the deaths of Christopher Humphrey, 34, of Franklinville, and Jose Vega, 35, of Camden.
The victims were found dead from gunshots Dec. 22, 2013, at 33rd and Farragut Streets in Camden. Authorities said the shootings stemmed from a dispute between the victims and the defendants involving drugs.
Authorities allege that the victims were killed the day before at a home on the 700 block of South Fourth Street. The bodies were then moved to a wooded area near 33rd and Farragut Streets, authorities said. A passerby discovered the bodies and called police.
Lopez, who was arrested Friday in Camden, was arraigned Monday in Superior Court and held on $2 million bail. Cortes was taken into custody Monday at his home in Riverton. A date for his arraignment was not announced.
