PENNSAUKEN When the Lobster Trap restaurant on the Cooper River in Pennsauken closed in August, it wasn't clear what would happen to the property.

But Camden County, which leased the space to the eatery decades ago, says it has new plans for the site in the 5300 block of North Park Drive.

The building will be renovated over the summer and fall, and a new restaurateur will be named by Memorial Day 2015, officials said Wednesday.

Several regional restaurants have expressed an interest in the location, said Dan Keashen, a county spokesman. He declined to name any of them.

The site was originally used by the county park system for bicycle and boat rentals when it was built in the 1930s as a Works Progress Administration project.

The building is "a real asset. It's popular because of the view of the river and rowing events," said Keashen.

"Thousands use Cooper River Park every day," he added. "You have a critical mass of people walking by on a regular basis and events that bring them in."
