VOORHEES - Camden County residents can receive free flu shots by stopping at the county store in Voorhees on Thursday or Friday, or by making an appointment with the health center in Bellmawr.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Camden County Store on the second floor of the Voorhees Town Center, the county Department of Health and Human Services will provide flu shots on a walk-in basis. The Camden County Region Health Center, 35 Browning Rd. in Bellmawr, will offer the vaccination through January by appointment only, from 1 to 3 p.m. Mondays and 9 a.m. to noon Fridays. Appointments can be made by calling 856-931-2700.

Children under 9 need an appointment. To make appointments for children without insurance, call the health center or CamCare at 856-541-9811.

The flu shots are offered by the county in an effort to prevent the spread of an illness that each year causes thousands of deaths in the United States. More than 7,300 doses have been distributed through 16 clinics, the county said.

State law requires children up to 59 months old to be vaccinated between Sept. 1 and Dec. 31 each year if they attend a licensed preschool or child-care facility.
