SOUTHAMPTON Registration is open for a 10-week summer course about plants in the Pine Barrens.

"Special Pinelands Plants — Fundamentals" is to be taught by Russell Juelg, the New Jersey Conservation Foundation's land steward and Pine Barrens educator. She is working in partnership with the Pinelands Preservation Alliance.

The $150 class combines workshops with field study at New Jersey Conservation Foundation's 9,700-acre Franklin Parker Preserve. The course was created for beginners but may appeal to seasoned field botanists.

Classes are scheduled for Thursdays from 7 to 9 p.m. from May 29 to July 31 in Southampton. The outdoor portion includes nine all-day field trips to the preserve on weekends from May 31 until Aug. 3. Students may register online at https://donate.njconservation.org/2014-special-pinelands-plants-fundamentals. For more information, contact Bill Lynch at blynch@njconservation.org or 908-997-0725.
