A Burlington County man suspected of repeated thefts from South Jersey Wawa stores was overpowered by employees in his most recent attempt, police say.

Police said Gregory Talley, 48, of Pemberton Township, tried to rob the Wawa at 798 Woodlane Rd. in Westampton Township by pretending to buy a pack of gum, then reaching into the register and grabbing cash after the cashier opened it. The two struggled, and other employees came to the cashier's aid.

The workers detained Talley until police arrived, authorities said. He was taken into custody and is facing robbery and theft charges from the Sunday evening incident.

Talley also was charged with stealing $300 from an open cash register at the same Wawa on July 12 and is facing charges in an earlier similar offense at a Hainesport Wawa.
