1 dead, 1 hurt in West Philly shootings

A 42-year-old man died at the hospital after being shot in West Philadelphia early Saturday morning, police said. The man, whose name has not been released pending family notification, was shot one time in the back while outdoors around 12:45 a.m. on the 5900 block of Spruce Street. He was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he was pronounced dead at 1:09 a.m.

PHILADELPHIA A 42-year-old man died at the hospital after being shot in West Philadelphia early Saturday morning, police said.

The man, whose name has not been released pending family notification, was shot one time in the back while outdoors around 12:45 a.m. on the 5900 block of Spruce Street. He was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he was pronounced dead at 1:09 a.m.

A few blocks north, on the 6000 block of Vine Street, a 48-year-old man was shot several times outside around 1:37 a.m., police said.

He was shot once to the stomach, once to the pelvis, and once to the leg, and was listed in critical condition at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, police said.

No arrest had been made in either shooting by Saturday.
