Woman's body retrieved from FDR Park lake
Philadelphia Police said they retrieved the body around 1 p.m. near the popular boathouse in the park, which is often used by students for dragon boat racing and kayaking.

The body of an unidentified adult woman was pulled from a lake in FDR Park in South Philadelphia on Friday afternoon, according to Philadelphia police.
Authorities said they retrieved the body around 1 p.m. The body was taken to the Philadelphia Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the cause of death.
The body was pulled from Edgewood Lake near the popular boathouse in the park, which is often used by students for dragon boat racing and kayaking.
Students had been using the lake all week, according to an instructor, reporting nothing unusual.
The area around the lake, which includes the Anna C. Verna Playground, remained quiet late Friday afternoon. Teens chatted and people walked their dogs in the crisp weather, along a bridge that connects Edgewood Lake to the smaller Meadow Lake.
The lake by the boathouse is a popular area for programming, including free family fishing, which drew more than 3,200 people last year, according to organizers.
It also makes for a scenic walk just off the park’s main walking path.
