Boy, woman dead in South Philadelphia rowhouse fire
Four other people were injured in the blaze on the 2600 block of South Third Street.

A woman and a toddler were killed and four other people were injured in an early morning fire Friday in a South Philadelphia rowhouse, officials said.
The fire was reported around 2 a.m. in a two-story rowhouse on the 2600 block of South Third Street. Firefighters encountered heavy smoke on the first floor upon arrival.
At least three of the survivors were injured jumping from the second floor of the house, officials said. One survivor reportedly was taken to the burn unit at Crozer-Chester Medical Center. There was no official word on the conditions of any of the injured.
Firefighters found two residents, a woman and a male child, dead inside the rowhouse after beating back the flames, officials said. The fire was declared under control around 3 a.m. Its cause is under investigation.
Fire Commissioner Adam Thiel told reporters at the scene that with four fire deaths reported so far in January, compared to 19 all of last year, 2019 has gotten off to a “tragic start.”
