Three people were killed in the crash, which took place just before 5 a.m. Saturday, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

A early-morning crash on the Schuylkill Expressway left three dead and snarled traffic on the roadway for hours Saturday, according to officials.
Just before 5 a.m., Pennsylvania State Police troopers saw a white Ford pickup truck traveling the wrong way on the westbound side of the highway in Upper Merion Township, according to a police report.
The truck nearly hit the troopers, who were unable to stop the vehicle. They continued their pursuit of the pickup truck, which sped away.
Not long after, the truck struck two vehicles-head on near the highway’s Belmont exit.
Three people were pronounced dead at the scene. Their names were not released Saturday, nor were any further details.
The westbound side of the highway near the scene of the crash was closed for eight hours to investigate the crash.
State police said their investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact them at 610-584-1250.
