A 33-year-old man and his 12-year-old son were wounded by gunfire from burglars Monday night in their East Frankford home, police said.

About 9:45 p.m., the man, his wife, and two children were returning to their home in the 5200 block of Marlowe Street from a shopping trip when the father noticed someone inside the property, said Capt. John Walker of the 15th Police District. Shots were fired from inside the house and the father was struck in his arms and legs, Walker said. The boy suffered a graze wound to his chest.

Police took both victims to Temple University Hospital, where the father was reported in critical condition but was expected to survive. The boy was treated and released, police said Tuesday. The man’s wife and 11-year-old daughter were not hurt.

The father may have returned fire during the incident. Walker said the father had a permit to carry a concealed firearm and two sets of spent shell casings were found at the scene.

Police said they were looking for two men in their mid to late 20s who may have escaped in a gold-colored SUV or minivan.
