Philadelphia police are investigating the death of a 34-year-old man who was gunned down at 7:25 p.m. Saturday on a West Oak Lane residential street.

The man, whose name has not been released, was shot three times in the back of the head and one time in the chest in the 1800 block of Plymouth Street, police said.

The victim was found on the street and rushed to Albert Einstein Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The slaying remained unsolved as of Saturday night.

Police were also investigating the nonfatal shooting of a 35-year-old man at 6:33 p.m. Saturday in the 5000 block of N. Broad Street. The victim was shot twice, in the stomach and forearm, and taken to Einstein, where he was listed in stable condition, police said.

The Saturday night violence followed eight shootings — two fatal — that unfolded in less than nine hours Friday night into Saturday morning, police said.

As of Friday night the city had recorded 132 homicides, a 32 percent increase from the same time last year when there had been 100 slayings, according to the Police Department.
