Chester County authorities said six people were injured in a reported explosion and fire Wednesday at a house in West Brandywine.

County emergency officials said crews were called to the home on the 400 block of Hibernia Road shortly before noon.

TV news helicopter footage showed heavy smoke coming from the large home as fire crews sprayed water from several directions onto the main building and several additions.

Emergency officials said six people were reported injured and three were flown by helicopter to a hospital. WPVI-TV reported that four of the injured were children. Two others were taken to a hospital by ambulance and one declined treatment.

Chief Todd Ziegler of the Wagontown Fire Company told the station that nearly 60,000 gallons of water had to be brought in to douse the flames, and fire crews also got water from a pool and a pond on the property.

Several state, local, and federal agencies were working to determine the cause of the explosion.
