The Media Police Department is warning of scammers impersonating the chief of police.

The police department said fraudulent phone calls have been made to borough residents by someone alleging to be the police chief, according to a March 25 statement. At times, caller ID has indicated that the call is coming from Media Borough Police. The subject reportedly speaks with a heavy foreign accent, according to the post.

Residents should not give out personal identifying information over the phone, the department said.

Questions can be directed to the Media Police Department at 610-565-6656, or residents can call 911 to have an officer dispatched.

Media Police Chief John McCormick did not immediately respond to a phone call for comment Wednesday afternoon.

Government impersonation scams have surged in recent years. Americans lost nearly $800 million to scammers pretending to be U.S. government officials in 2025, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
