The Tacony-Palmyra Bridge reopened early Tuesday morning after a multiple-vehicle accident Monday night, police said. One person was killed and five were hospitalized.

The bridge between the city’s Tacony section and Burlington County in New Jersey was shut down just the accident that occurred about 6:50 p.m., police said.

Police say two cars were heading westbound toward Philadelphia. One car clipped the other, sending it into the eastbound lane and striking a Honda Civic head on. The driver of the Civic was pronounced dead on the scene. He was later identified as Gerardo Francisco Perez Martinez, 35, of Camden. Five others were taken to the hospital, none had what appeared to be life-threatening injuries.

The Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office and Burlington County Bridge Commission Police Department are investigating the incident.
