A water main break caused street flooding Friday night in the city’s Grays Ferry section and efforts to repair it continued Saturday, a Philadelphia Water Department spokesperson said.

The break occurred in a 16-inch main, and street flooding was reported after 7 p.m. in the area of 28th and Dickinson Streets, said department spokesperson Brian Rademaekers.

The water to the main was turned off, but as of Saturday morning, there were no properties without water, Rademaekers said. Crews were there “excavating to determine what repairs are needed,” he said.

“We are digging … to access the leak and make it safe for repairs,” he said.

He said Saturday afternoon that 28th Street at Dickinson remained closed as crews continued working.

The cause of the break was under investigation, but damage typically occurs more frequently during cold weather, Rademaekers said.
