Toll increases went into effect Wednesday on the Delaware Memorial Bridge.

The cash toll for cars and small trucks is now $5, up from $4, while motorists with E-ZPass will pay $4.75.

Motorists with a commuter-discount plan will pay $1.25 per trip if they make 22 trips in 30 days.

Tolls for commercial vehicles have increased by $2 to $12 per trip, depending on the number of axles.

The toll increase is expected to increase revenue by $32 million annually. The Delaware River and Bay Authority, which operates the twin spans, says the money is needed for capital improvements for the bridge as well as the agency’s Cape May-Lewes Ferry.

About 45,000 vehicles pay the one-way toll on the bridge daily.

• Truck with 2 axles, 6 tires: $12

• Truck with 3 axles: $21
