Inquirer readers on the life of Rosalynn Carter and honoring Donovan Dixon.
Remembering Rosalynn Carter
The passing of former first lady Rosalynn Carter reminds us of the glory of a better time: an era in which a simple life of hope, goodness, and basic human decency defined many major figures on the national stage. With her marriage partner of an astounding 77 years, the Carters lived a life of purpose. Would that there be more like her in such a turbulent time in our nation’s history, a time in which we find our people so divided. Carter leaves a legacy through her lifetime of accomplishment. She made the world a better place. She enriched the lives of those fortunate enough to know her, as well as those of all Americans. Her memory will surely be an eternal blessing.

…
Rosalynn Carter walked her own path, inspiring a nation and the world along the way. Throughout her incredible life, as first lady of Georgia and of the United States, Carter did so much to address many of society’s greatest needs. She was a champion for equal rights and opportunities for women and girls; an advocate for mental health and wellness for every person; and a supporter of the often unseen and uncompensated caregivers of our children, aging loved ones, and people with disabilities. Above all, the deep love shared between Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter is the definition of partnership, and their humble leadership is the definition of patriotism. She lived life by her grateful faith. I send my love to President Carter, the entire Carter family, and the countless people across our nation and the world whose lives are better, fuller, and brighter because of the life and legacy of Rosalynn Carter. May God bless our dear friend.

Honoring Donovan Dixon
Against the backdrop of human misery (violence, war, crime, discrimination, etc.) that assaults us in daily headlines, how rewarding was it to read about someone who reminds us that there is still light shining in this troubled world of ours. Central High graduate Donovan Dixon has already accomplished much in his young life and his hard work and vision for the future have been rewarded with the prestigious and well-deserved Rhodes scholarship. Congratulations to his parents, who have gifted the world with this impressive young man, and to Donovan, who aspires to a life of public service. He is a beacon of hope and represents Philadelphia at its best. We look forward to hearing from him in the future.
