Football: Scuderi resigns at Camden Catholic

By Phil Anastasia

Dennis Scuderi Sr.'s second stint as Camden Catholic's football coach lasted just one season.

Camden Catholic announced Thursday that Scuderi has resigned because of "work commitments."

Camden Catholic was 4-6 this season.

Scuderi returned to Camden Catholic in the spring. He had previously coached the Irish from 1997-2004, compiling a 53-21 record.

Scuderi also was 36-20 in five-plus seasons at St. Augustine Prep (2005-2010)and spent a couple of years as an assistant coach at Absegami, where his son Dennis is the head coach, before returning to Camden Catholic.

His departure continued a trend of change at the top of the program. The next Camden Catholic coach will be the Irish's fourth since 2010, following Scuderi, Gil Brooks (2011-2012) and Rick Brown (2005-2010).

"We thank Dennis for service to the school and dedication to the program during this season," Camden Catholic president Mary Whipkey said in a statement.

Whipkey said the school will "immediately" begin the search for a new coach.

"The football program at Camden Catholic has a long-standing tradition of winning teams and respectable players, both on and off the field," Whipkey said. "We have a dedicated group of alumni and supporters who will assist us in finding the right person for the job."
