This makes me feel sick

It looks likely that Debo Adegbile's nomination to head the Justice Department's Civil Rights Division will be approved by the Senate.

Because Adegbile, then a lawyer for the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, worked on an appeal for cop-killer Mumia Abu-Jamal, the FOP and others are opposing his nomination. The FOP called it a "thumb in the eye of our nation's law enforcement officers."

Over the years, I have written thousands of words about the Abu-Jamal case and have worked to knock down many of the insane lies floated by Mumidiots, as I call them. Now I find myself on the same side as Pam Africa.

Now that's a smack in the head.

The issue is not one of Mumia's guilt. The former "award-winning journalist," as Mumidiots like to describe him, is a murdering liar. Even his cadre of empty-headed celebrity acolytes have a problem denying he killed Police Officer Danny Faulkner.

Still, under our adversary legal system, Mumia is entitled to a defense and the best defense available to him. While at the NAACP, Adegbile was assigned to help in Mumia's appeal.

That assignment should not be held against him any more than any criminal defense attorney's clients should be held against him or her.

I've looked into Adegbile's bio and he seems to be a man who through hard work and intellect arose from poverty -- a real GOP success story. But now the GOP, including Pa. Senator Pat Toomey, is opposing him because of his notorious client.

I am as anti-Mumia as they come, but here in the Stu-niversity we play by the rules, no matter how uncomfortable they make us.

If there is another, or a better, reason to disqualify him, let's hear it.

Simply doing his job is not enough, no matter what his political opinions (and since he is President Obama's nominee, we know what they probably are).

So I defend his right to the job, even though I am sickened by some of the company I am forced to keep.
