Basketball: Clark resigns at West Deptford

By Phil Anastasia

Don Clark, who built West Deptford boys' basketball into one of the Colonial Conference's most competitive programs, has resigned after five seasons as the Eagles' coach.

Clark said he resigned to spend time watching his children play sports at Clearview High School.

Clark led West Deptford to a 22-6 record last season. The Eagles finished second to Haddonfield in the Colonial Liberty and advanced to the second round of the SJ 2 tournament, losing to eventual champion Camden.

West Deptford made steady progress the last three seasons, improving from 14-13 to 19-9 to 22-6.

"The thing I'm most proud of is taking a team from 2-24 (record in 2009-10) to 22-6 with players from our town and efforts from my assistant coaches and a strong booster club," Clark said.

Clark said he would miss competing in the Colonial Conference in basketball.

"I will miss battling the Colonial coaches who are some of the best coaches in South Jersey," Clark said.
