Chris Crowley said he was "energized" by a year away from football.

Crowley was an assistant coach at Paul VI in 2012, then was out of football during the 2013 season.

"It was the first time I was away from the game in a long time," Crowley said. "It energized me. I'm excited to get back."

Crowley replaces Mike Blackiston, who was not rehired after last season.

Deptford was 1-9 in 2013. The Spartans' last winning season with in 2006.

Crowley is a teacher at Woodrow Wilson. He has been hired an adjunct coach but could land a teaching job at Deptford for next year.
