Football: Ellis takes over at Great Valley

Dan Ellis, who developed a high-scoring offense at West Chester East, has been tabbed as the new head football coach at Great Valley.

"It's a great school, a great school district, and there's a strong athletic tradition there," said Ellis, a former quarterback at Downingtown and Virginia.

Ellis guided West Chester East to a 12-21 record over the last three seasons. Before that, he was in charge for three years at Springfield (Delaware County).

Last season, Great Valley went 8-3 overall and 4-2 in the Ches-Mont League American Conference. West Chester Rustin won the conference title.

"Rustin has ruled the league for a while," Ellis, 35, said. "Our goal is to win the league championship."

New Vikings boss. Dave Gueriera, who was the offensive coordinator at Episcopal Academy, will replace Ellis at West Chester East, pending school board approval next week.

Before spending two years at Episcopal, Gueriera, 35, was the offensive coodinator at Harriton and the quarterbacks coach at Malvern Prep.
