Baseball: Updated Diamond Classic scenarios

By Phil Anastasia

Clearview and Audubon can clinch automatic berths to the 41st annual Joe Hartmann Diamond Classic baseball tournament today.

But the Green Wave will need help.

The 16-team tournament begins May 10.

The field, which will consist of 10 automatic qualifiers and six at-large teams, will be announced Sunday night, based on games played through Saturday.

Here's a look at division races still in play:

Tri-County Royal: Clearview (5-2 in "Royal" games) clinches with a win today at Kingsway. If Kingsway wins, Williamstown (4-2) would clinch with a win over Cumberland on Saturday.

If Clearview loses today and Williamstown loses Saturday, Clearview will earn the berth.

Colonial Patriot: Woodbury (4-1 in the division, 5-2 in conference) will clinch with wins over West Deptford today and Lindenwold on Saturday. That would give the Thundering Herd the edge over Audubon in the third tie-breaker, overall conference record (7-2 to 6-2, assuming Audubon beats Haddon Heights today).

Audubon (5-1 in division, 5-2 in conference) will clinch today with a win over Haddon Heights if Woodbury loses to either West Deptford today or Lindenwold on Saturday.

Olympic National: The winner of Saturday's game between visiting Bishop Eustace (5-1) and Paul VI (5-0) Saturday at 2 p.m. will earn the berth.

Cape National: Buena is 8-1 and doesn't have any more division games. Cedar Creek is 7-1 and plays Pleasantville today and Ocean City on Saturday at home at 10 a.m.

Cedar Creek has the tie-breaker edge over Buena based on win over the Chiefs. So Cedar Creek would lock up the berth with a win today of Pleasantville if the Pirates made up their game against OC (rained out Thursday) after Saturday.

But Cedar Creek and OC have agreed to play Saturday morning. So assuming CC beats Pleasantville, Saturday's game will decide the berth: CC is in with a win, Buena gets the nod if OC wins.

Other divisions that already were settled:

Olympic American: Washington Twp.

Burlco Liberty: Northern Burlington.

Burlco Patriot: Maple Shade (7-1) earned the berth when it's game vs. New Egypt (5-1) scheduled for today was postponed to after Saturday.

Colonial Liberty: Haddonfield.

Tri-Co Classic: Pennsville.

Cape American: St. Augustine.
