Basketball: St. Augustine-Camden scrimmage

By Phil Anastasia

St. Augustine visited Clarence Turner Gymnasium to face Camden in a clash of two of South Jersey's best boys' basketball programs on Tuesday.

The scrimmage was pretty even through three, 10-minute quarters, with St. Augustine holding a slight edge on the scoreboard at the end of the first two periods and Camden with the advantage in the third.

St. Augustine junior guard Saeed Nelson (pictured) and sophomore forward Justyn Mutts played well for the Hermits.

St. Augustine coach Paul Rodio said before the scrimmage that junior Mike Vasturia, a starter at forward as a sophomore, had not come out for the team this season.

Sophomores Austin Kennedy and Trey Grier and freshman Marlon Hargis also showed well at times for the Hermits.

Camden got some good work from seniors Rasool Hinson and Will McCants along with newcomer Tory Whitehead, a senior transfer from Pennsylvania who appears to be the Panthers' top ball-handler.

Juniors Brad Hawkins and Jamal Holloway also made some plays for Camden.
