MERION STATION, Pa. - The Saint Joseph's women's tennis team dominated city rival La Salle, 7-0, Tuesday afternoon at the SJU Tennis Complex. Competing in their first home outdoor matches of the season, the Hawks didn't lose a set as they improved to 3-4 on the season.
Saint Joseph's opened play in strong form, taking the top two doubles matches and leading the third when the competition was called. At No. 1 doubles, Aurora Davis and Alex Zachem made quick work of La Salle's Jade Smith and Jayla Smith, taking the match 8-0. In the second flight, Claire Minnoe and Maureen Devlin teamed for an 8-1 victory to earn the doubles point, while Lauren Roy and Kristina Eisenbrand were ahead 6-0 in the third flight when it was called off.
Switching to singles play, the Hawks didn't miss a beat as they took all six matches without giving up a set. Davis breezed to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at the top flight, while Minnoe posted a 7-5, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles. Eisenbrand kept up the dominance with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at the third flight and Maureen Devlin turned in a 6-2, 7-6 (5) win at no. 4 singles. Kelly Mulquin and Zachem closed out singles play with 6-2, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-0 victories at no. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively.
The Hawks return to action at Duquesne at Saturday.
