Bernhardt let go as Bonner-Prendie's football coach

Greg "Bubba" Bernhardt has been fired as Bonner-Prendergast's head football coach after four seasons. He learned of the school's decision on Tuesday afternoon.

"I was totally shocked," Bernhardt said. "I didn't see it coming at all. I thought we did a good job of putting the program in the right direction."

Bernhardt, who was part of Monsignor Bonner's 1995 championship squad, compiled a 19-23 overall record. The Friars went 4-6 this season, losing to Archbishop Ryan, 7-6, in a Catholic League Class AAA playoff semifinal.

"I'm extremely disappointed, but I don't have any ill will toward the school," Bernhardt, 38, said. "I with them all the best. Hopefully, they will get the guy they want."

Before taking the top job, Bernhardt was a Bonner-Prendie assistant for five years under ex-boss Tom Oropeza.
