The 11th annual Pete and Jameer Nelson Classic is set for Tuesday and Wednesday at Widener University and Chestnut Hill College. A total of 17 games are on tap at the two sites.
On Tuesday at Widener, Imhotep clashes with Chester at 7 p.m. The Panthers' Daron Russell and Jaekwon Carlyle, a Hampton recruit, make up one of the area's top backcourts. The Clippers are powered by 6-foot-8 center Maurice Henry (Delaware State) and 6-7 wing Marquis Collins.
Next, at 8:45 p.m., Plymouth Whitemarsh, led by 6-3 wing and Rider signee Xzavier Malone, battles Friends' Central, fueled by Division 6-7 forward De'Andre Hunter, a Virginia signee, and guard Chuck Champion, who is bound for Loyola (Md.).
On Wednesday at Widener, Archbishop Carroll, spurred by guards Josh Sharkey (Samford) and Ryan Daly (Hartford), faces former teammate David Beatty and St. Benedict's (N.J.) at 5:15 p.m. Neumann-Goretti, ranked No. 2 in Southeastern Pennsylvania by The Inquirer, meets Hudson Catholic (N.J.) at 8:45 p.m.
The marquee contest Wednesday at Chestnut Hill is defending PIAA Class A titlist Constitution vs. reigning Class AA champ Conwell-Egan at 4:30 p.m.
The five-game event at Chestnut Hill closes with Martin Luther King vs. Episcopal Academy at 7:45 p.m. In an intriguing head-to-head matchup between 6-7 players, King senior Rasool Samir goes against rising EA junior Nick Alikakos.
