Cahillites storm to second straight state crown

With Penn State coach Patrick Chambers watching from a front-row seat behind the basket, three of his recruits from Roman Catholic shined in a big way against Taylor Allderdice.

Lamar Stevens, Nazeer Bostick and Tony Carr combined for 55 points as the Cahillites raced past the Dragons, 73-62, Saturday night at Hershey's Giant Center to capture their second straight PIAA Class AAAA basketball championship.

Stevens totaled 27 points and eight rebounds; Bostick registered 15 points and five boards; and Carr delivered 13 points, eight boards, and five assists.

Stevens shot 8 for 15 from the field and 11 for 12 from the line. The 6-foot-7 wing had five high-flying dunks.

Stevens' putback slam at the end of the third quarter gave Roman, which recovered from a 10-0 deficit, a 49-40 advantage.

Dakquan Davis' fastbreak layup upped the lead to 60-46 with just over 6 minutes to play. James Jackson and Ramon Creighton paced District 8's Allderdice (28-2) with 21 and 19 points, respectively.

Roman (27-4) repeated as Catholic League, District 12, and state titlists.
