Report: Chris Christie kicked off Amtrak 'quiet car' for loud phone calls

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie was booted from the quiet car of an Amtrak train on Sunday morning.

A passenger told Gawker that Christie was drinking what appeared to be a McDonald's strawberry smoothie when he and his security detail boarded the 9:55 a.m. train from Washington, D.C. to New York City.

After taking a seat in a quiet car, Christie "immediately started making phone calls" and became embroiled in an "intense" conversation, repeatedly uttering the phrase "this is frickin' ridiculous," the fellow rider reportedly said.

A conductor eventually asked the governor to stop talking or sit elsewhere, and Christie chose the latter option.

Christie spokeswoman Samantha Smith confirmed the report: "On a very full train this morning, the Governor accidentally took a seat in Amtrak's notorious quiet car," she said in an emailed statement.

"After breaking the cardinal rule of the quiet car, the Governor promptly left once he realized the serious nature of his mistake and enjoyed the rest of his time on the train from the cafe car. Sincere apologies to all the patrons of the quiet car that were offended."

Attempts to reach Amtrak for comment were not immediately successful.

Earlier Sunday, Christie appeared on CBS' "Face the Nation" and faulted President Obama for "justifying" the Black Lives Matter movement, claiming proponents had advocated for the killings of police officers.
