Jeb Bush confronts dynasty issue in NH

CONCORD, N.H. – New Hampshire voters get right to the point.

How, the man at the Snowshoe Club asked Jeb Bush, do you address the frustration many people feel at the prospect they may be forced to choose between another Bush and another Clinton (Hillary) in 2016?

"I have enough self-awareness to know that that is an oddity," said Bush, the former Florida governor who is the son and brother of former presidents.

"I have to prove that I'm not running for president - if I go beyond the consideration of this to being an active candidate - to try to break the tie between the Adams family and the Bush family," he said, drawing laughter from a crowd of about 100 Republicans at the Concord GOP's "Politics and Pies" event.

It was a reference to the only father-son combinations to become president: John Adams (2) and John Quincy Adams (6); and George H.W. Bush (41) and George W. Bush (43).

To prove himself to voters, Jeb Bush said he'll have to "show my heart" and win approval of his ideas and leadership ability.

"Not just to yap about it but to do it," he said. "And if I do that, then the Bush dynasty thing and all that Clinton-Bush deal -- all that stuff subsides. That's my plan. If you've got a better one, let me know."

After the hour long question and answer session, Bush dug into a slice of blueberry pie, admitting that it was an indulgence not permitted on his meat-centric paleo diet. "To hell with the diet," Bush said.

On another food related issue, Bush answered a reporter's question by saying yes, he likes to eat at Chipotle. nd, he said, he drives himself and even parks the car. This was a dig at Hillary Clinton, the former first lady who has said she has not driven a car since 1996.

Earlier in the week, Hillary Clinton ate at a Chipotle in Maumee, Ohio on a road trip to Iowa after announcing her candidacy for the Democratic nomination. She rode in an armored van – nicknamed "Scooby Doo" by the staff - driven by Secret Service agents.
