New Hillary Clinton ad: Trump says 'America first,' made clothing line abroad

Hillary Clinton plans to begin running a new TV ad in Pennsylvania and other battleground states on Wednesday, hitting Donald Trump for his record of outsourcing work to foreign countries.

The spot focuses on the real-estate developer's eponymous line of clothing, once sold at Macy's department stores. It shows Trump in an interview with former CBS late-night host David Letterman, who keeps asking where the "beautiful" ties and shirts were made. "Someplace," Trump says. Letterman notes the labels in the shirts say they were made in Bangladesh. "They've got to work too," Trump says. The ties, it turns out, were manufactured in China.

Trump smirks and shrugs while Letterman's live audience laughs.

A chyron provides the silent tagline: "Make America Great Again?"

Clinton has a $10 billion plan to boost manufacturing in the U.S., which her campaign says would be paid for by repealing tax breaks companies get for off-shoring operations.

In Pittsburgh last week, Clinton said: "Now, Donald Trump talks a big game about putting America first.  But then you actually peel back the story and what do you find?  He makes Trump shirts in Bangladesh, not Ashland, Pennsylvania.  He makes Trump furniture in Turkey, not Freeburg, Pennsylvania.  He makes Trump picture frames in India, not Bristol, Pennsylvania.  And I just have to point out, my husband is wearing a shirt that was made right here in Pennsylvania, in Reading – Reading, Pennsylvania. And when we were packing for the bus tour and he said, 'Well, what am I supposed to wear,' I said, 'Well, I don't know.  It's sort of bus tour casual.' And so he's going through his closet, and this morning in the hotel in Harrisburg he's putting this shirt on.  He goes, 'You know what?  This shirt was made in Reading, Pennsylvania, and you will not believe this, at a company called 'Bill's.'"
