Toomey to ABC: Too Busy to Hunt RINOs

Sen. Pat Toomey, Republican of Pennsylvania, is too busy doing his new job to go RINO hunting.

Pressed in a recent ABC News interview, Toomey said he would be neutral in the 2012 reelection race of moderate Maine Sen. Olympia Snowe (R), whom he once worked to defeat as head of the fiscally conservative Club for Growth organization.

In that role, Toomey often recruited and helped fund primary challengers to party moderates, the so-called "Republicans in Name Only," or RINOs.

But now that he's a colleague, Toomey will not lift a finger against Snowe. He also told correspondent Jonathan Karl that he won't support her either. "I'm not going to be getting involved in a lot of races," Toomey said. "I've got plenty of work to do" in the Senate. "That's what I'm focused on."

The interview was part of Karl's "Subway Series," in which he chats with senators while riding the electric tram that shuttles between the Senate office buildings and the U.S. Capitol.
