An Eagles Stat-Pourri!!!

A handful of stats from the Eagles-Jets and elsewhere.

A potpourri of Eagles and NFL stats today … Let's call it a stat-pourri:

♦ By this time, everyone that cares knows the four things that must happen for the Eagles to win the NFC East, but just in case:
1) Jets must beat the Giants (Saturday, 1 p.m.);
2) Eagles must beat the Cowboys (Saturday, 4:15);
3) Eagles must beat the Redskins (Jan. 1, 1 p.m., as of now); and
4) Giants must beat the Cowboys (Jan. 1, 1 p.m., as of now).

How likely it that to happen? One way to look at it is that there are 16 permutations of the results of those games (2x2x2x2) and only one works for the Birds. That's a 15-1 shot.

Or, you could look at it like this – three of those four things have already happened once this year (Nos. 2, 3, and 4) and the right team (Jets -3) is favored in No. 1.

One other thing to consider – the flex schedule won't be set for the Jan. 1 game until Dec. 26. There is no night game yet scheduled, so one of the 16 games will move there. And there could also be some movement between the 1 p.m. and 4:15 p.m. slots.

♦ The Eagles handed the ball to a running back on the first play of the game for the first time in 20 games.

♦ The Eagles have outscored their opponents 122-78 in the first half of their home games this season.

♦ Both the Eagles and Jets each ran 14 plays in the third quarter Sunday. The Eagles gained 150 yards on their 14 plays, the Jets gained 15 yards on their 14 plays.

♦ Eagles all-time are 46-0 when they enter the fourth quarter with a lead of 25 or more points. (Thanks to Rueben Frank for pointing that out.)

♦ The Eagles have outscored the Ryan Brothers this season, 79-26.

♦ When Asante Samuel makes an interception in a home game, his teams are 26-1 (including playoffs).

♦ Juqua Parker's 47-yard fumble return for a TD was the 12th return TD in a Jets game this season. There have also been three safeties in Jets games.

♦ The Redskins have outscored the Giants by 27 in two games this (51-24). They are being outscored by 75 in the other 12 (276-201).

♦ There is a possibility for the AFC West to end in a four-way tie with each team at 8-8. If that happens, the Chiefs take the title as they will be the only team with a winning division record.
