Single Digits (Sept. 23)

Single Digits

A half-dozen quick stats that caught our attention recently ...

♦ The fourth quarter of the Eagles-Redskins game Sunday took 58:35 of real time to play … The first quarter had taken 38:48.

♦ Jordan Matthews Sunday became the first Eagles rookie to have two touchdown catches in one of the team's first three games. Jeremy Maclin had done it in the Birds' fourth game in 2009.

♦ DeSean Jackson's 81-yard touchdown catch Sunday was the only play of that scoring drive for the Redskins. He had touchdown catches on six one-play drives in his Eagles career, ranging from 25 yards to 91 yards. See them all HERE.

♦ Chris Polk now has 19 career touches (11 runs, 4 catches, 4 kickoff returns) and four touchdowns. And although his 102-yard KO return (the third longest in Eagles history) was his highlight of the day, do not overlook his 35-yarder that set up the go-ahead TD drive at the end of the first half.

♦ Sunday's game marked the ninth in the Eagles-Redskins series in which they combined for 70 or more points, but the first time they had done so at Lincoln Financial Field.

♦ When Marlon Byrd struck out in the top of the 10th inning Sunday, the 2014 Phillies became the first team in major league history to have two different players strike out 180 or more times in a season. Ryan Howard had reached that milestone Saturday.
