Free handbook offers tips for seniors and their families
Guide explains legal issues and provides more than 25 resources.
Information for older adults and their families about such topics as financial planning, and Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid benefits is now available in a free handbook.
The Elder Law Handbook and Resource Guide also has information about property tax and rent rebates, prescription benefit programs (PACE and PACENET), and the Pennsylvania Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). There are sections on income tax and estate planning, long-term care, and grandparents' rights.
The guide was produced by the county's Area Agency on Aging and the Bucks County Bar Association to help seniors minimize costs, understand legal issues, and protect themselves against deception and fraud. It was funded by a $20,000 grant by the county commissioners.
The handbook is available through the Bar Association, at 135 E. State St. in Doylestown, and at the county's Office of Public Information, on the fifth floor of the Bucks County Courthouse, 55 E. Court St., in Doylestown.
