Enrollment is up at Lincoln University

Enrollment jumps four percent at Lincoln University, after several years of decline.

After several years of decline, enrollment at Lincoln University has increased four percent this year, the school announced Thursday.

Undergraduate and graduate enrollment at the historically black university in southern Chester County exceeds 1,900 students this year, up from 1,819 last year, the university said.

Since 2010, when the university had 2,361 students, enrollment had been on the decline - until this year, the school said.

University officials attributed the boost to increased recruitment and outreach.

"We are ecstatic and will continue to employ additional best practices to position ourselves for success in 2016," Kimberly Taylor-Benns, associate vice president for enrollment management, said in a statement.

Lincoln enrolled 558 new undergraduate students this year, the highest since 2009, and 86 new graduate students, the highest since 2012, the university said.
