Food pantries at college campuses: How to help
A growing number of colleges have opened food pantries and other programs to combat student hunger on campus. Here’s how you can help.
After we published a story on the growing number of colleges and universities that are establishing food pantries and other programs for students struggling with hunger, many have asked how to find out more information and get involved.
Here are some local programs:
Cabrini University
The Cabrini Cupboard food pantry opened this school year and accepts drop-off donations at the Center for Student Success in room 135 of Grace Hall or financial donations online. More information is available online here.
Montclair State University
Red Hawk Pantry opened last April and accepts drop-off donations at the Center for Student Involvement on the first floor of the student center. Financial donations are accepted online, and more information is available here.
Pennsylvania State University
Penn State Lion's Pantry opened in November 2014 and is located by East Halls and the Katz Law Building on the main campus. It accepts drop-off donations and monetary donations online.
Rowan University
Rowan's resource center will have a soft opening in March. Financial donations can be made online here or by calling 856-256-4095.
Rutgers-New Brunswick
The Rutgers Student Food Pantry opened last fall and accepts drop-off donations at Off-Campus Living and Community Partnerships, 39 Union St. More information is available online here.
Stockton University
Stockton's meal voucher program is funded by a portion of a 2015 increase to meal plan costs.
West Chester University
West Chester opened the WCU Food & Resource Pantry earlier this school year. Open Monday through Friday, the program accepts donations and volunteers. Information is available online here.
