Haverford College receives gifts for new arts/visual culture center
New arts center is planned for Haverford College
Haverford College this week announced gifts totaling $10 million to renovate its "Old Gym" into a new facility for visual, culture, arts and media.
The gifts, the college said, came from anonymous donors and will enable the college to move forward with design and construction of the facility, which is in the heart of campus. In addition to classrooms, seminar rooms, display areas, offices and a performance space, the new center will include more than 19,000 square feet for digital editing labs and sound studios, a "hacker/maker space," and a media installation area.
The college plans to raise more for the project through its current capital campaign, launched publicly in October. If all goes well, construction would begin late this year and the site would be finished in spring 2017, the college said.
