The costs were $49.4 million, the university announced on its web site. The costs cover a variety of legal representation including payment to Feinberg Rozen, the law firm helping to negotiate settlements with the victims of former Penn State football coach Jerry Sandusky.
Also included are a $12 million fine to the National Collegiate Athletic Association, $8.1 million to the law firm of former FBI Director Louis Freeh for the university-commissioned investigation into the scandal and other related expenses.
Some of the costs are expected to be reimbursed by the university's insurance policies, the university said.
