After an investigation of several months, state police have charged a Philadelphia man with tampering with public records and related felonies for fraudulently issuing driver's licenses at the Malvern Drivers' License Center in Chester County.

Khalif Abdullah, Ali, 43, a supervisor at the license center in East Whiteland Township, is accused of providing licenses to fugitives from justice posing as other people so they could "obtain new identities to avoid apprehension," a state police news release said.

Ali was committed to Chester County Prison after failing to post $20,000 bail; a preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, police said.
