Butkovitz to face at least 3 challengers in 2013 Democratic primary

We're going to go out on a limb here and predict that Michael Williams, who recently left a job at the city Law Department, is going to announce Wednesday evening that he will be a candidate in the 2013 Democratic primary election for the post of City Controller.

We're going to go out on a limb here and predict that Michael Williams, who recently left a job at the city Law Department, is going to announce Wednesday evening that he will be a candidate in the 2013 Democratic primary election for the post of City Controller.

We feel confident in that prediction because Williams, who left the city's employ in October to set up an exploratory committee for a run, has been touting on Facebook those efforts.  The committee says it was set up to "draft" Williams into the race.  He seems OK with that.

Williams, who has an event scheduled for Wednesday evening at the Reading Terminal Market to make an announcement, will join tax policy advocates Brett Mandel and former assistant city solicitor Mark Zecca in the primary field.

Butkovitz, seeking a third term in the post of the city's financial watchdog, is a potential candidate for mayor in 2015.
