Nutter Called on to Review Campaign Finance Law

Committee of Seventy CEO Zack Stalberg has a

asking when Mayor Nutter will -- as promised on the campaign trail -- appoint an independent panel to review the city's campaign finance laws. Stalberg notes that he'd like to see a review before the 2009 races for district attorney and city controller.

We pulled out Nutter's

from the campaign to check the promise. Here it is:

"As Mayor, I will convene an independent panel to review all current laws on campaign contributions and spending.

This panel will consider national best practices in regulating campaign finance, including the possibility of public financing and will make reform recommendations to the Mayor, City Council and the Board of Ethics. I believe the limits on contributions are the most feasible ways to reduce the influence of money in our local elections. However, I am committed to continuous improvement in this important area and, as conditions warrant, such as the emergence of statewide reform, I will always be prepared to consider additional measures."

So, when is it happening, Mr Mayor?
