Rose lands front-office gig with Hawks

Malik Rose is leaving a broadcasting position for a front-office job with the Atlanta Hawks.

The former 13-year NBA veteran was named the Hawks new manager of basketball operations on Tuesday.  The Philadelphia native, who starred collegiately at Drexel, starts his career after Labor Day.

Rose spent the past four seasons at the color commentator for the Sixers broadcast on Comcast SportsNet.

The 40-year-old, who has a wealth of basketball knowledge, was selected in the second round of the 1997 draft by the Charlotte Hornets.

After being released following that season, Rose went on to play eight seasons with the San Antonio Spurs and won NBA titles in 1999 and 2003. He spent nearly five seasons with the New York Knicks before being traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder in February, 2009. He was released by the franchise 10 months later.

Rose will work under Hawks coach and president Mike Budenholzer. Budenholzer was a longtime Spurs assistant coach. He developed a relationship with Rose during the former player's career in San Antonio.
