Sixers to retire Iverson's jersey number

ORLANDO - The 76ers will officially retire Allen Iverson's number 3 jersey in a halftime ceremony against the Washington Wizards at the Wells Fargo Center on March 1.

The undersized guard officially retired on Oct. 30, the day of the Sixers' season-opener against the Miami Heat.

"Allen Iverson is, without question, one of the most iconic players to ever wear the Sixers uniform," chief executive officer Scott O'Neil said in a press release. "Allen left everything out on the court and no one could ever question his heart – he was relentless, fearless and pound-for-pound, was one of the greatest to ever play the game."

Iverson played with the Sixerss from 1996 to 2006 and during the 2009-10 season. He also had stints with the Denver Nuggets, Detroit Pistons, and Memphis Grizzlies during his NBA career. Iverson briefly played for Besiktas Milangaz of the Turkish Basketball League during the 2010-11 season. He was an 11-time NBA all-star.

Iverson averaged 26.7 points, 6.2 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 2.2 steals during his NBA career.
